The Gold Standard in Ceramic Gravity Filters
After being introduced to the Berkey Light system by a friend 6 months ago, I've learned much about the poor quality and all out lies that the company that produces the black Berkey filters have made. They simply do not filter out all that they claim. After trying the black Berkey filters, I was mildly impressed with the quality of the water, but still preferred the taste of my Brita filter. But the black Berkey filters passed the red dye test, so I got rid of the Brita. I live in a very poor public water area in Colorado, so I wanted to protect my family the best I could.
About a month ago, the quality of my water had decreased. No priming or cleaning improved this. That's when I started researching these Berkey filters and learned that they do not last 1500 gallons, but should be replaced every 3 months like other filters out there (more like Brita filters). This is because they have no silver in them to ward off internal bacteria growth.

Great!
I purchased these to replace my several year old berkey filters in my travel berkey. From the very first the water had an off odor and taste - kind of mildew like and a little chemically tasting. I tried dumping and replacing with fresh water dozens of times hoping that the odor and flavor would improve, but it did not.
I spoke to the seller who forwarded my info to the manufacturer and after speaking with one of their representatives, they sent me a replacement set free of charge. I am VERY pleased with the new set. Water tastes wonderful with no off odor or flavor. In fact, I think that the water is better quality than my berkeys were when they were new (if my memory serves me.) Assuming that my initial problem was a fluke, I would easily reccomend these to anyone wanting a gravity water filter.
