It's plastic but hard to beat filter for the price
My wif is the ultimate judge of the performance of the filter in regards to how hair is treated by the output water, and this is the only filter so far that passes her tests. If the fixture was metal or of slightly higher grade plastic I'd give it a 5 star. The first one in plain white we had fractured after 5 years of service.

Horrible design
I decided to buy this after reading reviews. I wanted a filter that didnt lower my shower head by inches as it already is too low in my opnion. However the filter doesnt hold in place as shown in picture. It swivels. To add insult to injury, the company made me pay for shipping to return it so I spent $20 in shipping charges for nothing. Do NOT buy from this site unless you are positive you like this product.
