This filter mounts easily with no tools and the replacement cartridges are a great value, since they last many months (up to a year, depending on your water.) It noticeably reduced chlorine (which dries my skin terribly) and the odor of rotten eggs that sometimes is in our city water (hydrogen sulfide.) This is basically a Brita filter for your shower and it works just as well, if not better, than it's advertised. Since the water is cleaner, it takes less soap to lather up and there doesn't seem to be as much soap scum to clean up.

Great for what it says it does.
Let's be clear, this product is capable of doing only what it specifies it can do. Removing 95% of chlorine in the water as well as some other hard water particles. It will not take crap water and turn it into the fountain of youth. And it will not make the water much softer, despite the claims that it removes larger particles such as calcium. Get a water softener for that.
It is highly effective in the chlorine removal however. My skin was much clearer after using it in the city of Ames,IA which has some of the best *tasting* water in the country, but is still inundated with typical chlorine and is fairly hard. My recommendation is to visit your towns utility/water website and look into the water treatment statistics. It should give you an indicator on what is in your water, it's hardness and from there you can make an educated purpose.
Removes hydrogen sulfide
My only criteria for the filter was to remove dissolved hydrogen sulfide gas from the water. The hot water has a lot more smell than the cold water and showering was really awful until I got the filter. Now there is no smell at all. I have used other filters at my previous house to remove chlorine from municipal water, but they didn't have replacable filters. The filter housing is tight though, I might consider putting some white grease on the threads before I screw it on next time.
