In stage 1, Water flows through a sediment filter cartridge that removes sediment, silt, sand and dirt. Also to extend the life of water softener and water filters and prevent damage to control valves or pumps.
In stage 2, Water flows through pre one - micron filter pads (1 micron equals 1/25,000th of an inch), which remove suspended particles such as silt, sediment, cyst (Giardia, Cryptosporidium), sand, rust, dirt, and other undissolved matter.
In stages 3 and 4, water flows through a bed of media made of a special high-purity alloy blend of two dissimilar metals - copper and zinc (Eagle Redox Alloy® 6500, and Eagle Redox Alloy® 9500.).
In stage 5, Water flows through the ion exchange resin, reducing heavy metals such as lead, copper, aluminum, and water hardness.
In stage 6 , water passes through granulated activated carbon (GAC). GAC is universally recognized and widely used as an effective adsorbent for a wide variety of organic contaminants, such as chlorine, chemicals linked to cancer pesticides, herbicides, insecticides, volatile organic compounds and hundreds of other chemical contaminants that may be present in water, bad taste, and odors from your drinking water.
In stage 7, Water flows through another one-micron filtration pad for further reduction of undesirable particles. The end result is a great reduction or elimination of a wide variety of contaminants.
In stage 8, water travel through a solid carbon cartridge for removing volatile organic carbon compounds (VOC's), insecticides, pesticides and industrial solvents.

Not great for "hard" water
I installed this to my PEX plumbing. The sadle valve you get with it is not good for PEX, so if you have PEX plumbing, you'll need to buy what you need. Unfortunately, the water tasted worse from the filter than from my tap. I contacted the seller. They suggested I contact Crystal Quest. Crystal Quest said that my area (Southern PA) has "hard" water and this is what causes the issue. They suggested two things to try: (1) slow down the flow through the unit by partially closing the valve to the input side or (2) replacing the sediment filter with a Cation filter and re-ordering the filters. I tried the first and so far it's working though the flow is somewhat reduced. I was a bit hesitant to spend even more money on this by adding the Cation filter cartridge. I suggest that if you plan to install one of these, go to Home Depot or someplace and get a water testing kit and have your water tested. Great customer service and great product!
I accidentally ordered this product instead of the crystal quest ceramic triple water filter, which is identical except it has a ceramic filter instead of carbon. This vendor was very understanding, and immediately corrected the problem by allowing an exchange of one of the filters to a ceramic filter at no cost. They sent me the new filter first and I put the other filter in the box and mailed it back with no additional freight cost. First of all, the quality of this filter, with the ceramic version, is five-star. Add to it great customer service and you have an unbeatable combination.
Good product
This is a good product if you want to simplify the filtering of your water. However, the trick for the water to taste great is to minimize the outflow of water as much as you can.
